Ezra + Beth

Last weekend, I had the incredible honor of shooting my friend and fellow photographer Ezra Gordon‘s wedding in Monterey with Eric second shooting. It was such a treat! Ezra and Beth are a great couple and so, so, so much fun! We hadn’t been able to do an engagement shoot before the wedding, but–no matter! Ezra thought up the most adorable morning for him and his wife-to-be to share before the big day got underway. The couple got ready, had a short and sweet first view at the hotel, and then headed off to downtown Monterey to have a cup of coffee and read the paper together. Afterwards, they took a stroll through downtown and just enjoyed a perfect Monterey day.

Beth waiting for Ezra to bring their French Press. Gorgeous bride!

Possibly one of my favorite pictures. It really captures their morning together:)

Perfect day in Monterey.

I love this moment in the ceremony – when the father prepares to hand his daughter to her groom. Beth and her Dad were especially sweet in this picture.

After the ceremony, we had the most fun time taking a couple fun shots on the beach. Ezra and Beth’s joy as newlyweds just exuded through every part of them! It was such a delight to capture!

Love this awesome shot Eric captured.

Ezra and Beth – you guys are precious!

This photo captures what will, no doubt, be a fun memory for Ezra and Beth. The surfer pictured saw them on his way to the water and offered a few pieces of advice for a good marriage. He was a wise old guy! I love this picture though – I’ve decided it should be subtitled, “With Love from California.”

Ezra and Beth’s reception was intimate and sweet. This picture shows one of the many fun and funny moments from the evening!:)

Ezra and Beth, thank you guys so much for letting Eric and I be a part of your beautiful day! Congrats!

Summertime

It’s July 29th. In a few short days, we’ll be into the month of August and summer will soon be coming to a close. I sure will miss it – there’s a lightness, a laziness that commands us to stop our incessant worrying, toiling, and never-ending busyness to just slow down, enjoy and relax. Many of my favorite memories have occurred during the summertime. Summer makes me think of juicy peaches, corn on the cob, homemade ice cream, pool time, blisteringly hot temperatures, late evening walks. What’s your favorite part of summer? Have you gotten to take some time to just soak up some of summer’s sweetness?

Adam & Christy

Last Saturday, I teamed up with Ezra Gordon to shoot video of Adam and Christy’s wedding day in Calistoga and we had a blast! Not only are Adam and Christy a beautiful pair–and one of the most relaxed bridal couples I’ve ever had the pleasure of shooting–they are personal friends of Eric and mine, and the loving owners of one of our dogs’ pups!

We first met Adam and Christy back in late November I believe it was, when the puppies were only about 2 weeks old. As we waited for the pups to get older, we continued to get to know Adam and Christy and so enjoyed watching them prepare to become “puppy parents.” We had no idea we’d soon watch them prepare to become spouses! They came back from a Christmas holiday in Mexico engaged – and two weeks later took their big boy Zuko home! And so on Saturday I got to watch Zuko’s parents tie the knot!

Though I was shooting video, I was a able to snap a few stills of the day I’ll share while Ezra and I work on the video. It was a beautiful day!

Happily married!

Congratulations, guys!

Art is…

Chris Humphreys, a great friend, inspiration, and our wedding photographer, shared this quote on his blog and I fell in love with it. I’ve thought of it often in the last few weeks, but never so much as when I photographed these lovely wildflowers in Big Sur last weekend.

I’ve also realized since then how much I was blessed by his simply sharing the quote. In the blogging world, there’s so much information always being thrown out there, it’s nice to see something uplifting and simple every once in awhile.

Have a wonderful Friday.:)

Adventures in Big Sur

This past weekend was a-MAAAY-zing. Eric and I had bought tickets to Sunday’s portion of the U.S. Open back in February, so we used the event as an excuse to get away for a much-needed weekend on the coast. Having both already spent quite a bit of time in the Carmel/Monterey area, we were looking for new adventures to be had.

And then we stumbled upon Big Sur.

Now, I’m sure as most of you read this, you’re saying to yourself, “Um, hello? Duh. Big Sur is like one of the most beautiful places on Earth.” Yes, well phenomenal as it is, neither of us native Northern Californians had heard anything about it until about 6 months ago, much less ever been there. So we made our plans to go without too many expectations. Needless to say, when we got there, we were blown away.

Big Sur is a place of extremes. Gorgeous mountainous coastlines crash explosively into unbelievably turquoise water in a breathtaking way you’d swear was somewhere more remote than California. I snapped pictures the entire time, but this is one of those places that humble photographers (and anyone else) because the grandeur and beauty are simply too much to be captured, controlled, or possessed by any one person. Still, I had to share what beauty we were privileged to behold while there.

The pristine coast stretches on like this for some 90 miles.

Shots from Big Sur Bakery, a definite highlight of the weekend.

I kept thinking the water looked nice to swim in because of how turquoise it was. No doubt it’s freezing though!

I took this photo while we were driving and absolutely love the motion in the trees that resulted…

Interesting cloud formation

Lovely bright white breakers

Distant shot of Bixby Bridge, one of the most photographed bridges on the West Coast.

Can’t get over how gorgeous that water is.

After sharing these photos, I almost feel like I shouldn’t have to say this. But just because I loved it that much, I will. If you haven’t been to Big Sur yet, YOU MUST GO!

Be Fruitful.

This summer, our church (Calvary Church) is doing a series on the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) called Be Fruitful. Our worship leader Andy asked me this past week if I’d be interested in contributing a few pictures that communicate the fruit of the Spirit. He has invited any and all photographers in the church to contribute to the blog they’ll be updating daily, which you can check out here.

Here were my group:

love

The newlyweds’ delight in one another exudes from every part of them.

joy

Children remind us of the purity of joy.

peace

This scene just soothes the heart to be at peace.

patience

This tree demonstrates patience is necessary to see true growth.

kindness

These open hands remind me of how small acts of kindness and generosity can radically change another’s life.

goodness

Nurturing little ones and the vulnerable in need can bring out the most kind, generous, helpful, and sincere in us.

faithfulness

She waits for me every day.

gentleness

The wind is probably God’s greatest reminder of how pleasant a gentle spirit is.

self-control

There is no greater battle than the one waged within the fierce landscape of the mind.

Should be a fun and rewarding project – I’ll definitely update on how it all turns out!

Boudoir Workshop

So, as I stated in the “Sneak Peek,” I went to the PictageU workshop with no expectations and no experience. Maybe you’re like me, and you wonder how something like this might play out. Here’s how it worked: we met in the mornings to receive instruction from our teachers, then we got to shoot with them in the afternoons! Here’s a behind-the-lens view of my workshop with Christa Meola:
